Network Monitoring is the process of observing and analyzing network traffic and performance to ensure optimal operation and identify potential issues or security threats. It involves continuously tracking network activity, identifying anomalies, and providing insights into network behavior and performance. Effective network monitoring helps organizations maintain network reliability, security, and performance. By proactively managing the attack surface, organizations can reduce their exposure to cyber threats.
Roqos provides the community version of the ntopng, integrated Network Monitoring solution within its SASE platform. ntopng constantly listens to network traffic to identify all connected devices, the applications they run, top talkers, and most-used applications, among many other features. Roqos SASE allows you to remotely and securely access all your ntopng instances from a single UI to monitor your entire network for ultimate productivity.
Roqos delivers a distributed ntopng architecture, enabling secure, remote visibility across your entire network from a unified dashboard. Easily monitor branch offices, cloud workloads, and main headquarters in a few clicks. All telemetry data stays on your local Roqos Cores and is never transmitted to the Roqos Cloud, ensuring total data privacy.
In Inline Mode, the Roqos Core appliance is positioned directly within the primary network data path between local network segments or your internal network and the internet gateway. As live traffic passes sequentially through the appliance, the integrated ntopng engine analyzes packet streams in real time. This deployment mode captures complete, bidirectional flow metrics—including active connections, throughput rates, and application-layer protocols—directly from the primary traffic path to provide continuous, end-to-end network visibility.
In TAP Mode, the appliance operates passively by receiving a mirrored copy of network traffic via a physical network TAP or a switch SPAN/mirror port, leaving the live data stream entirely untouched. Because ntopng processes duplicate packets out-of-band, this configuration introduces zero latency to your network operations and eliminates any risk of affecting primary throughput or device connectivity. This non-intrusive setup is particularly effective for large-scale network diagnostics, and passive performance monitoring without impacting production traffic.
